The Pet Tailor

Happy Tails Camp Resort

Dog Boarding

Canine Boarding Resort at our in-home facility
We have two new sections for your K9 kids to stay during their visit. One is called the “Wagg-N-Tails Inn” and the other one is called the “Canine Country Club Villa”. All are part of the “Happy Tails Camp” experience here at the Pet Tailor’s facility.

Every effort is made to select the best suite for each pet from the variety of accommodations we offer. We keep an eye on how the pets are doing and if necessary move them around to insure their comfort and provide them with a great vacation.

Each pet has a private bedding area out of sight of other pets for their den style creature comfort. We provide thick rubber mats and artificial lambs-wool bedding to our non-chewing guest free of charge.

Our Facility has AC, the floor is heated, we use air purifiers, dehumidifiers, ceiling fans and exhaust fans for the Health and comfort of your pet.

We have Clear View Doggie Doors for our Active Visitors who want to let themselves in & out (or) we can provide hand walking in & out just like home for the gentle guest.

All doors are closed down at night for safety and a quiet night’s rest.

All the outside Kennel Runs are made with 1 1/4” mesh X 11 Ga. Chain Link so that pets can safely play along the fence lines beside other pets without the dangers of getting hurt. Most of our runs range in length from 22 to 30 feet long and are positioned out front between our facility and the driveway for a full view of the daily activities. We also have a few runs located on the backside for pets that prefer more privacy.

We built what we call “pee walls” 11 inches tall between the runs to provide protection against pets spraying one another. This feature provides cleanness without giving up the view of everything around them.

All outside runs have wire covers to keep climbers in and have awning covers that serve as a porch for added protection against sun and rain. Platforms for lounging are built in each run and a perimeter fence surrounds the entire facility.

The effect of the gravel for dogs is similar to sand for humans. Gravel is the best surface to use in dog runs for cleanness, better exercise, and it provides cushion for joints and little paws. To keep pets from digging out the kennel base was made of wire & concrete that was sloped towards the center for good drainage. We then put 6-8 inches of small smooth river-rock gravel as the top dressing in all our outside runs and the pets love it.

The design of our facility encourages Pets to exercise during the day and sleep during the night. When the pets sleep quietly at night it’s proof to us that everyone had an exciting day and is comfortable. If any pet has a problem we will be the first one to hear it from our home.

Love, supervision with experience and fresh water are always provided. Treats and toys are offered. Music plays softly in the background at all times.

Owners are requested to bring their pets food because it is better for them to stay on what they are used to eating. We can give medications as provided and instructed by the owner.

Wagg-N-Tails Inn Suites

The “Inn” is located under our home, behind our check in counter, grooming room and is the first section you see when you drive in. This section has indoor/outdoor runs with “Clear View” doggie doors that allow pets to let themselves in and out as much as they like during the day. The outside runs range in size from 25 to 30 feet long and the inside area ranges from 4 to 6 feet. We recommend this section for chewing pets because the doggie doors are made with Lexan® and appear to be indestructible.

In and just outside this section we also have a few indoor runs with detached outside runs for those that need more human contact or need assistance going in and out during the day.

Canine Country Club Inn Suites

The “Club” has many of the same features as the “Inn” including heated floors, AC, dehumidifier, music and the like. The “Club” section is beside our home, has a vaulted ceiling and several ceiling fans. We purchased state of the art aluminum rod interior doors for each run and made these runs with larger inside accommodations. We installed clear “Verilon®” vinyl flaps in the doggie door opening instead of the “Clear View Lexan®” plastic doggie doors for softer in/out movement for sensitive pets.

It is not advisable for chewing pets to stay in the “Club” section unless their owners are willing to pay for replacement flaps if their pets tear the vinyl strips of the doggie doors down. The “Inn” section is equipped with clear Lexan® doggie doors that have proven to be indestructible over the last several years.

Play Yard

Play Yard time is an additional service that is available for unleashed playtime in a area with room to run free inside the protection of a large fenced yard. We play with the pets during their time in the yard, throwing a ball, a Frisbee and give lots of petting with praise.

We will also supervise as family pets play together but for safety reasons we don’t put pets together that do not live together. On special request we will allow pets to play with friends they are already familiar with.

All boarding pets get excited watching others in the Play Yards. Pets in the Play Yards seem to know they are special and appear to show off to the pets watching from their runs.

We offer three types of play yards to suit the needs of each pet visiting with us.

Puppy Play Yard
The Puppy yard has six foot chain link fence surrounding it with terraced steps to run up, down & around and a small pool for pups to play in during the summer.

Doggie play yard
The doggie yard is enclosed with three-board horse fence and covered with four-foot high anti-climb fence wire. It is located out front on a large grass yard between the driveway and our field.

Hillside Play Yard
The hillside yard is surrounded by six-foot anti-climb fence and is built on a grass-covered slope of the hill where muscles will get a big work out. This yard is located between our home and the nature trails that go up the hillside. This yard is the choice for pets that are jumpers and is also great for strong active pets that need more of a work out.

Nature Walks
Walking pets on our nature trails is an additional service for those guests that go on walks regularly at home. Nature Walks are not done for exercise purpose because we offer play yard time for those who want more exercise. The service of Nature Walking is offered for pets to have the same routine given by their owners at home or to give them the feeling of exploration with one-on-one attention.

All pets must be walked on a lead outside the fenced areas. Normal walking time is 30 minutes from start to finish. Walking one at a time is best. On special request we will walk more than one at a time, if the pets are used to a brace lead.

Nature Walks are done according to the condition of the pet. If there is question of health or safety the walk will be confined to protected areas. A pet in good condition can go on extended walks all around the property, up the wooded hillside trails, to our barn and grass area around the pond.

Many pets have enjoyed a pass by the barn where the sheep hang out, up the hill where the cats sleep during the day. Some of our visitors have enjoyed a trip to Larry’s shop to say hello and get a friendly greeting while they check out the activity there.

First Time Visitors Information

The first time you board a pet with us, it is helpful to give us your registration information ahead of time so we will have your paperwork ready and save you time on your check in process.

The information we will be asking for is; your name, address, phone, emergency contact person information, pets name, breed, color, sex, birth date, weight, neutered or spayed, Veterinarian name/number, Vaccine dates, feeding schedule, medication schedule if needed and knowledge of things your pet loves and any fears or problems to better serve them. We will also need to know if you want any additional services like bath, nature walk, play yard time, brushing or photos in order to schedule it for your pets visit.

Owners are requested to bring their pet’s food so they stay on the diet their systems are used to. Please let us know if they have any allergies.

We try to make the leaving process as painless as possible for the pet and ask that owners try not to get worried or sad at this point. The pet does not understand but knows when their owners are upset and this can trigger anxiety. If the owner is calm about leaving their pet with us the pet will be more at peace. When the owner is upset the pet will be upset.

We will not drag or force a pet to leave their owners. We prefer their owners hand them over to us in the waiting area as we wait and watch with your pet until you are gone. It is better psychology for the pets to remember the office as the place where their family was last seen. We find that pets respond like kids at daycare and once the parents have left they get busy having fun until their family returns.

The feature of having our dog runs out front where our canine visitors can see everything is wonderful to entertain those already staying with us but can be a bit scary and overwhelming to the first time visitor. All the barking may frighten the new comer but once they are here and see that it is safe and fun they usually come back happy to join in on all the exiting activities. We see most of our returning pets pulling their owners inside the door, eager to get out and play.
